40 Years of Kentish Town City Farm

Project Background

Kentish Town City Farm celebrated its 40th birthday in 2012. In December 2012, we marked the occasion by hosting an exhibition called “The First 40 Years” charting some of the most memorable moments from the farm’s beginnings in the 1970s.

The exhibition and this website were made possible by a grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund. The grant provided the resources for a group of young people and adults to get involved with the research, collection and documentation of the project, learning new skills from archival research to photography to film-making.

This website hosts all of the photos, films and audio interviews that were gathered together for that exhibition. Undertaking research around the Gospel Oak area we have spoken to people living in the area over the last 40 years, and to some who have been here even longer. A documentary film made for this project, examines Gospel Oak’s rich and turbulent history and the social and political changes that are a backdrop to the creation of the farm. Photo stories by young farm volunteers explore the impact that the farm has on local area youth.

If you have a memory or photo of the Farm or Gospel Oak area to share, please email us at 40years@ktcityfarm.org.uk or use the contact page.
